A few individuals had larger fruits and taller stalks, and might correspond to F. moschata. | Luis Santos del Blanco | Dept Ecology and Evolution. Biophore Building. They occured at both sides of the road, with quite big differences in phenology due to sun exposure such that plants from almost only one side of the road were collected. Population area estimation is given to the restricted buffer zone by the road and not inside the forest. In GBIF there is a F. viridis record nearby, but it is very dubious. | Luis Santos del Blanco | Dept Ecology and Evolution. Biophore Building. Relict population growing nearby a dam (pantano de Yesa) and threatened of extinction due to plans to increase water level. Fragaria viridis is very rare in the whole region, and this is the only known population. Environmentalist groups have argued against water level rising in order to protect this Fragaria viridis population (http://www.boe.es/diario_boe/txt.php?id=BOE-A-2010-13154). Plants were not rare, but they had virtually no fruits. After a very intensive search, only two plants with fruit were found. Plants were collected and are kept alive, and although they were collected well part from each other, it is possible that they belong to the same genotype. Dry leaves for these plants are shipped instead of fruits. SAME AS SITE EU.ES.10.1 - BENITO ALONSO SITE 5 | Luis Santos del Blanco | Dept Ecology and Evolution. Biophore Building. Fragaria plants growing nearby a pond in a mediterranean mountain forest area. This is one of the very few locations where F. viridis occurs, and here is where the healthiest plants were found, some of them with well developed fruits, although it was not possible to collect all 20 plants as vegetative reproduction was intense and fruiting plants were not that abundant. Fragaria vesca occured in the same area, but they were easy to tell apart and our identification confidence is high. Identification mistakes are however possible. | Luis Santos del Blanco | Dept Ecology and Evolution. Biophore Building.
