EU.ES.2_2013-07-05EU.ES.241.4269-3.7666111702013-07-05SpainSegoviaESSGThis is a relict population in an isolated forest patch, nearby a basophilous peatland, a very rare habitat in this part of Spain. The area is a nature reserve (Natura 200 Network "LIC Sierra de Pradales". http://www.magrama.gob.es/es/biodiversidad/temas/espacios-protegidos/ES4160122_tcm7-153910.pdf) The presence of Fragaria viridis is highlighted in the official document describing the protected area (Fragaria viridis is not protected itself). Fragaria virdis plants grow nearby a peatland and stream, but away from damp soil. It was really hard to find fruiting plants, and those that did fruit, had only few achenes, which were not very ripe at collection time. Vegetative spread of the plants was evident, and it might be possible that there only a few different genotypes in the whole area. Fragaria viridis is the only species growing nearby.Luis Santos del BlancoDept Ecology and Evolution. Biophore Building.
